Pictured to the right is me at the top of Mount Snowdon after I completed The UK Three Peaks Challenge and raised £800 for the RSPCA.
But, I couldn't have done that so easily a year before. Luckily for me, because I'd discovered a few truths and formed my Sculpt8 method, I practically raced to the top, feeling light and fit and was first to the top on EVERY mountain!
Bear with this, the story explains all and gets good...
Since I can remember, I've always been fascinated with how the human body works and how we can live optimally to look after it as best as possible and achieve the best health and live as well as possible for as long as is humanly possible.
I loved Biology at school at took up reading on the subject of nutrition and exercise by buying a guidebook for girls on health at age 8 and at age 10. I read Optimum Nutrition by Patrick Holford - a book written for adults!
Exercise was always a joy for me, even when it was hard. The feeling of conquering a new move in gymnastics or mastering my technique in ballet filled me with utter joy.
And the ache I felt in my muscles afterwards only confirmed the transformation that was happening in my body.
I got my first job related to health at age 19 at a supplement manufacturer (vitamins, minerals, herbs etc.) and loved my job as In-Charge of Raw Materials Purchasing because I got to learn about all the ingredients and how different quality made a difference to the consumer.
I then went on to work at a Weight Loss Clinic but as an admin
But I loved hearing the stories of the clients and learning how their diet worked.
However, I also noticed a lot of clients returned because they would regain the weight after their journey there was over.
I felt that if you had a weight loss goal, you want to get there and stay there!
You don't want to go through all that effort and spend the money only to put the weight back on again and feel you can't do it without all the support on the programme!
I also noticed the phone at the clinic was ringing all day long with clients, often crying that they were so hungry!
The advice was usually "have a dry Ryvita".
Now, I don't know about you, but when I'm starving, a dry cracker really isn't going to cut it.
I saw the problem.
If they were hungry and unsatisfied (because our stomach, brain and tastebuds all need to feel satisfied), then of course they are not going to succeed without the constant support and also when they are not paying for it any longer.
I went on to do my diploma in Nutrition And Weight Consultancy.
I then later went on to become a Personal Trainer, working in gyms with high-profile professionals and in my own private studio.
But again, I noticed where the flaws were in clients of mine and of the other trainers that had weight loss goals and couldn't stick to it once they could no longer keep up the one to one.
Or, they may never quite get to their goal.
But you want to know what really gave me the motivation to solve this?
When I was working as a PT and fitness instructor, delivering several classes per week and doing 1-2-1 training and I became overweight!
For one, a lot of the training trainers are given is based on the right nutrition and exercise for male athletes under 45!
But also, I realised some of the theories (calories in vs calories out for example) were flawless in theory but in reality, are not sustainable.
I had to solve this problem for myself because it was embarrassing to say I was a personal trainer and a weight loss professional (I started to keep that one to myself for those who didn't know me) and yet I was... well a little on the chubby side to be honest!
And over time, I developed my Sculpt8 method - a healthy weight programme that helps you lose weight now but makes it easy to maintain it!
It breaks it down into 8 manageable steps to form habits that begin to feel second nature.
But it's realistic.
The idea is you don't have to avoid chocolate, cheese or whatever you love forever 100% in order to maintain a healthy weight and optimum health.
But it also doesn't involve tons of exercise to "burn off" what you've eaten.
It's about sustainable exercise habits that are realistic with our busy lives and doesn't make you dread doing exercise.
Most people find joy in exercise for the first time on this programme.
But they also enjoy the fact that they not only lose weight, but it sculpts their curves, so they look great in a fitted dress or jeans and they're stronger, fitter and have a healthier metabolism
so they DON'T have to watch what they eat really carefully or do mad workouts that feel like torture to burn off one cube of cheese!
I get the greatest joy from seeing the transformations in the physical, emotional and mental health of the women who do my programme.
